Eid ul Adha is the bigger Eid. It deserves more thought than grabbing whatever's clean in the wardrobe the night before.
Here's what to actually wear this year, from prayer through to the evening.
Start with a Thobe
This isn't complicated. A thobe is the right choice for Eid. It covers you properly, it's appropriate for prayer, and it looks intentional. For UK Muslims the two most popular styles are Moroccan and Emirati. Both work. The Moroccan cut is relaxed and flows well. The Emirati kandura is more structured and formal. Pick based on how you want to look.
Colour
White is the classic choice for morning prayer and always works. But Eid ul Adha is not Eid ul Fitr. People branch out more. Black is strong for the afternoon and evening, especially if you're at a dinner or a gathering. Earthy colours like brown, olive and grey are popular and they photograph well without blending into a crowd of white. Navy is underrated. Any of these work.
What Goes Underneath
June. Keep it light. A cotton undershirt is enough. You'll be standing for prayer and moving around for hours. Don't make yourself uncomfortable.
Footwear
Clean white trainers are fine. Leather sandals are fine. Simple dress shoes are fine. Whatever you choose, make sure they're clean. Worn-out shoes undo everything else you've put together.
Grooming
Trim your beard. Sort your nails. Apply something, a clean oud or musk. The Prophet (peace be upon him) wore his best and applied fragrance for Eid. It's part of it. Don't show up looking like you rolled out of bed.
